Gone
are the days when khaddar was a rough, itchy and dull fabric. Now
shops specialising in the new breed of khaddar are as plentiful
and varied as the colours it comes in. Ghazala Saifi's recent acquision
of Khaamta has infused a new oomph to the designs and the shop is
ready to set the summer on fire.
Saifi,
a young woman oozing with life, vibrancy and success, eats, sleeps
and talks colours. Her mind is constantly racing with churning up
new designs and colour schemes.
Revamped
and revitalised, Khaamta houses hand-woven fabric, shirts, kurtis,
capris, skirts, bags, caps, stoles, shawls, kurtas, rugs and more.
And the men need not feel neglected as Saifi takes pride in being
the first female to design menswear in Pakistan. The young designer
offers a range of menswear from kurtas, shalwars and kurtis to sherwanis
and turbans.
Saifi
is involved with her workers on a daily basis and gives due credit
to the weavers as it is their hard work which produce such fine
quality hand-woven fabrics. She strongly believes that there should
be a copyright law against hand-woven designs being replicated by
power-looms.
Future
plans include another outlet in Karachi, and following that, Saifi
wants to take her label to Lahore.
So
whether you like it simple or elaborate, Khaamta is the place for
you.
