| Avant
garde jeweller-sculptor, Amin Gulgee, looks towards Alexander
and Greek mythology for inspiration for his latest collection
of jewellery. When Amin bought a collection of agates from Afghanistan,
he was initially intimidated by the sheer size and shape of
the stones. “I first thought of incorporating them into
my sculpture,” say Amin. “I just didn’t know
how to harness them into jewellery and it was only six months
later after researching the Alexandrian age at the Louvre that
I decided to fashion them into jewellery.”
Amin
captured the earth-toned agates in Greek/Persian inspired swirls
of gold-plated copper and accented the pieces with cabochon
amethyst, kunzite and topaz. As with all Amin’s creations,
the pieces bear his hallmark sense of electrifying style. This
is bold, statement jewellery at its dramatic best. And as Amin
says, “It is the mysterious quality of the stones, as
well as dealing with the circle that universally signifies infinity,
that takes this collection beyond all cultural boundaries. ”
