With the dawn of the 90s, the shalwar took a backseat as Pakistani designers experimented with their new-found replacement: ‘trousers.’  In began with a straight pyjama-like silhouette which moved into higher-cut tapered pants and finally culminated in the more inventive capri pants.

          Today, with fusion at an all-time design high, the look has evolved into the more daring slit pants given the eastern touch with embroidery and sequins.  Pakistan’s design gurus seem to have found the perfect blend of culture and western trends.  This month, Newsline reminisces on the journey of the trouser as an integral part of Pakistani style.
