"Leather, " states Shamaeel, " is an avant garde medium and to date has only been used in western gear.” In her latest collection, Shamaeel decides to dispense with standard formulae of eastern fashion by using this very medium to produce a happening cosmopolitan line.

Using unusual fabrics such as sheep napa and cow analeen, and a very basic colour palette consisting of nude beiges, chocolate brown and ebony, she has created sleek, figure-accentuating leatherette tops accented by sequins and delicate hand embroidery, which can be worn with sarees, sarongs or trousers– a “universal, functional and price-conscious line,” says the designer.
