Focus on Jemima

 By Sairah Irshad Khan

INSIDE

Not a shrinking violet maybe, but certainly fiercely private, Jemima Khan recently voluntarily stepped out of her self-created cocoon of obscurity into the full blaze of television cameras – all for a good cause.

The deplorable conditions prevailing in the Afghan refugee camps in the Frontier so moved Jemima when she visited one last month that she was propelled to take action.

Within a few weeks she had managed to muster several hundred tents and assorted provisions for the refugees, and create an ongoing relief operation.  And of course when the reclusive Ms. Imran Khan actually ventures into the public eye, can the cameras be far behind?

Thus, there was Jemima, hair and dupatta askew, crumpled clothes and all going about her business with missionary zeal, and close on her heels the cameras and crews of assorted networks.  And for once the lady welcomed the attention because she believes it’s time the world sat up and took notice of how the other half lives.

Quite another Jemima – svelte in a sari and tressed to perfection – attended, with a black tied Imran in tow, the L ondon-based Women Achievers Award ceremony.  This time she didn’t solicit the cameras – but they found her nonetheless.
