"Life
is all about taking chances," says young designer, Junaid,
aka Juni. With a passion for fashion for as long as he can remember,
designing hasn't just been a career move for Juni, but the culmination
of a lifelong dream. Juni is a Latin dancer, can act, has indulged
in modelling and made his mark in the fashion world three years
ago. Juni's "Pure" line is predominantly white with a
western design ethos. The lines are as pure as the colour: clean,
sleek, minimalistic silhouettes. Juni said that when he was looking
for inspiration, the only thing that came to mind was pristine white.
He feels that it is hard to predict fashion trends in Pakistan's
fickle fashion industry.
"Predictions
are easier abroad because designers start a year before and showcase
their collections a season in advance," says Juni. "In
Pakistan, whether it is western formals or eastern bridals inspired
by Mughal art or Hindu mythology, being a designer means taking
risks."
In the pipeline is a collection for summer and Juni is currently
working on the "Asian" line which is based on the jewel
tones of the subcontinent and the Orient.
