It
is not batsmen and bowlers, but Pakistani art that will be attracting
crowds to London's Lords Cricket Ground this December. Lords will
be the venue for an auction and dinner event titled 'Indus Inspirations,
a synthesis of art and humanity.' Organised by Sanjan Nagar Public
Education Trust (SNPET), with assistance from the International
Cricket Council and ITA Public Trust, a UK-based charity, the fundraiser
hopes to raise money for underprivileged children in Pakistan.
Scheduled
for December 2, in Lord's Long Room, the evening will feature the
work of 33 leading Pakistani painters. Interested buyers can meet
the artists who have donated paintings, and pre-bid on the ones
they like at an exhibit to be held in November. With a diverse collection
on show, art lovers will be able to chose from works depicting divinity,
landscape, miniature, abstract, figurative, surrealist, mixed media
and mughal fresco.
This
event is expected to cap last year's success, 'Visions of Harmony'
held at Lahore's Arif Jah Haveli, which featured the lethal combination
of Farida Khanum and M. F. Hussain - she sang and he painted.
Proceeds
from the December event will be used to build five replicas of Sanjan
Nagar, a very successful English-medium school which provides free
education to girls, that was established in 1995 in Gulberg, Lahore.
