“Since there was a lack of information of what happens
at the Pret, we were ill-prepared.
So the three of us came to a consensus to limit ourselves
to a black and white palette because of its timeless and classic
appeal. The west is
light years ahead in cut and finish, so I decided to concentrate
on embellishment within the western idiom.
There’s not a paisley in sight.
Jal-kari and florals are the two elements that run
through the entire collection, while the work is limited to
silk thread, pearls, diamantes and sequins.
The silhouette is simple, body accentuating and purely
western. The idea
is to target high fashion buyers and earn foreign exchange. This is probably the first time that Pakistani
products of this calibre are being represented at the Pret
and I am confident that we can compete internationally.
So far Pakistan has been represented by low-end manufacturers,
hopefully that image will change.”
